Clenbuterol Hydrochloride for Animal Use

Clenbuterol hydrochloride injection  is a beta-2 adrenergic agonist used in horses to relieve bronchospasm and improve airflow in lower airway diseases like equine asthma and heaves

Description

Clenbuterol 50ml

Clenbuterol hydrochloride is a bronchodilator used in horses for the management of lower airway disease, including equine asthma and other conditions associated with bronchoconstriction. These disorders occur when the small airways narrow due to inflammation, excess mucus, and smooth muscle contraction, leading to coughing, nasal discharge, and exercise intolerance.

Classified as a beta-2-adrenergic agonist, clenbuterol works by stimulating beta-2 receptors in bronchial smooth muscle. This activation causes relaxation of the airway muscles, resulting in dilation of the bronchi (lower airways) and improved airflow. In addition to its bronchodilatory effects, clenbuterol may enhance mucociliary clearance, helping remove mucus from the respiratory tract.

Indications:

Clenbuterol Injection is used for the treatment of respiratory disease in horses where it is considered that airway obstruction is due to bronchospasm.

In cases accompanied by pyrexia, the parenteral administration of chemotherapeutic and/or anti-infective agents is recommended.

Dosage and Administration:

Twice daily administration of 0.8 mcg of Clenbuterol Injection per kg body weight.

This is equivalent to 1.25 mL (containing 30 mcg [0.03 mg] per ml) per 50 kg body weight given by SLOW intravenous injection.

Use aseptic technique.

Effects last as long 8 hours after a single dose, 12 hours on repeated twice daily dosing.

Key Insights

  • Clenbuterol is a beta-2 adrenergic agonist used in horses to relieve bronchospasm and improve airflow in lower airway diseases like equine asthma and heaves
  • It works by relaxing bronchial smooth muscle and enhancing mucociliary clearance to help remove excess mucus
  • Approved for equine airway obstruction, clenbuterol provides symptomatic relief but does not treat underlying inflammation
  • Prolonged or high-dose use may reduce aerobic capacity and lead to tachyphylaxis or cardiovascular side effects
  • Possible side effects include sweating, tachycardia, excitement, and muscle tremors, especially with rapid dose escalation
  • Clenbuterol is prohibited in competition, with withdrawal times of approximately 7 to 12 days depending on testing method

Contraindications:

Due to a potential risk of increasing the peripheral vasodilating effect of clenbuterol, it is not recommended that corticosteroids be used in conjunction with Clenbuterol Injection.

Clenbuterol Hydrochloride Injection antagonizes the effects of prostaglandin F2? and oxytocin.

The action of Clenbuterol Injection is antagonized by adrenergic blocking agents.

Caution:

If used during pregnancy, Clenbuterol Injection must be discontinued at the expected time of delivery, since uterine contractions may be abolished under its influence.

The effect on fertility of breeding stallions has not been determined.

Side Effects:

Infrequently, transient sweating, muscle tremors and mild tachycardia have been observed following intravenous administration.

In each instance, the symptoms abated without complications or additional treatment.

Storage:

Store below 25 C (Air Conditioning) and protect from light.
